Distance Learning around the block

I came across this video today while reading through my aggregator this morning. It is about a five minute video of a fourth grade classroom using Skype to include a leukemia patient (Celeste) in classroom activities while she is in the safety of her own home. The teacher in the classroom has mentioned a few drawbacks to the setup on his blog. The two that I recall are lack of inclusion in specials, and it is hard to help her with some of her work because her camera is built into the monitor and therefore is hard to point at the screen. Overall though it looks like a fantastic use of low cost resources to extend the classroom.

What kind of impact does this have on 4th grade students who see this in practice on a daily basis?

What happens when these students realize that geography is no longer an excuse to limit learning opportunities?

What do you think? Watch the video and share your comments.
