KCMS Newsletter 4-13-10
Last Friday I enjoyed hanging out with the 6th graders, spending time in their classes throughout most of the school day. This experience renewed my appreciation for KCSA’s educational mission and the particular ways in which that mission is being carried out at the Middle School. I especially enjoyed observing the students’ involvement in a social studies project, designed to inform them about the nations of Africa, Asia, and Oceania. The project was also designed to encourage exploratory learning, giving students options to choose a country and to focus on certain interesting features of that country. Seeing the 6th grade students enthusiastically making use of various hands-on resources and conducting internet searches under careful guidance from their teachers provided a glimpse of Kalamazoo Christian at its best. We should never stop giving thanks for the privilege of working as partners with parents as their children learn more and more about God’s amazing world. – John B.

Theo & Stacey's have changed and are now available on Downtown Dollars at a higher percentage.
ALSO: TRIP will be in need of new coordinators in the next couple of years. Please consider joining this program next year to work with our current volunteers to learn the ropes and be ready to take over in 2011/2012 when we will be losing several of our long time volunteers. New coordinators are needed to continue the TRIP program next year and beyond, prayerfully consider what your roll in this program might be. If you have questions about what TRIP involves you can email Karen Millikan at kcsatrip@aol.com or stop by any Wednesday morning at the Middle School library and talk with us. Thanks, your current TRIP Coordinators.
ATHLETIC PHYSICALS FOR 2010-11
If your student will be in 7th or 8th grade next year and they want to play an interscholastic sport (golf, cross country, football, basketball, track, volleyball, archery), they need to have a completed physical form on file in the office. We will be combining with the HS to do these physicals at the High School on Wednesday, April 21, 7:00pm - 8:30pm. The cost will be $10. If you choose to have your physical at your doctor’s office, it must occur on or after April 15, 2010. Students will NOT be allowed to try-out/practice without a physical form on file.
CORRECTED EMAIL ADDRESS
The email address in the Parent Partnership letter for you to use for feedback was incorrect. Please make note of the correct email address board@kcsa.org. Thank you.

HOWARD HILL HUSTLE
“The Howard Hill Hustle” 5K Run/Walk Race and Kid’s 1K Fun Run will be held on Saturday, May 15. It is just over a month away and time to begin training if you have not already. If you are interested in running or walking the course on Saturday mornings, email Lisa DeHaan mdehaan@ashland.com.
It is time to get pledges for the Howard Hill Hustle race. Remember, our goal is to have 5 people sponsor you at $5 each! Make your calls to friends and family and start asking in your neighborhood. It is simple, and it benefits YOUR school. Don’t forget there are great prizes if you raise over $350, and a party for the grade that raises the most in each school. All pledge forms should be turned in by April 22.
There will be fabulous race giveaways, a few silent auction items, race photos, live music, post race massages, concessions, and many fun kids’ activities. Parking will be at the Stadium Drive apartments off Howard Street across from the High School. There will also be a valet service for personal items while you are running.
Parents and grandparents, if you do not plan on running, get involved by volunteering! We specifically need help in the runner’s galley (food tent), concessions, parking and take down. Students who may be looking for community service hours may also volunteer. If you are willing to help in these areas, please email Jackie VanderKooi jjvkooi@sbcglobal.net.
Go to the race website at howardhillhustle.kcsa.org to sign up.
