Science Addition Completed
In March work began on the science addition to the high school. Those involved were excited that this project had begun, but were anxious about the future. State building code requirements and harsh winter weather had caused a delay from the original date of December 1. The luxury of a normal seven month timetable had disappeared. The work would have to be done in five months if the building was to be done by the time school began in August.
But then another challenge presented itself when excavation began. It was discovered that the soil at the building site wasn’t nearly as stable as the previous testing had indicated. The excavation work would be much greater in scope, which would cause another delay. The timetable had shrunk again. Contingency plans for the beginning of school began to be discussed.
But as He has done so often in the history of KCSA, God richly blessed KCSA beyond our expectations. The needed permits to occupy this building when school begins were received during the week of Aug 11! The seven month timetable had been accomplished in a little more than 4 months! The addition will be ready for our students on the first day of school to provide the much needed educational opportunities we have needed for many years. And the landscaping will even by done by this time!
How did God accomplish this? He provided perfect weather for construction. He used a spirit of cooperation and flexibility among the many subcontractors involved. For example, on one day forty five people were working at one time on the site! God used Jim Mills, our dedicated project manager from general contractor Whitaker Construction. Jim used many different “approaches” with the subcontractors to manage a project of this size and pace. And day after day he would stay after hours on his personal time to fix up, clean up, and touch up the many things that needed to be addressed. Finally, God used the donated hours and efforts of some KCSA constituents who were determined to make this project a success.
Praise and honor to our God who provides all good things!
